Database associated with SAP is logically partitioned into 2 sections.
- Application Repository
- Data
Application Repository is the portion of the database where all SAP Application Components are maintained.
Application Components includes : Programs, Screens, Functional Modules, Tables e.t.c.

Application Repository is further logically organized into Packages. Packages again categorized into 3 types
- Standard Packages.
- Temporary Packages.
- User defined Packages.
- Standard Packages used to store standard SAP Applications.
- User defined Packages used to store custom developed SAP Application Components.
